THE LATEST ON ABORTION
* Mike Gerson says this:
For the foreseeable future, the abortion debate — with all its tragic complexities — has been returned to the realm of democracy. And there is little evidence our democracy is prepared for it.
* A WWoN reader says this:
I think it is easy to predict what’s going to happen:
Both sides will overplay their hands, further turning off voters on the left and right.
The right will end up with overly restrictive laws in some places that leave rape victims with babies, women with ectopic pregnancies dead, and miscarriages liable to prosecution, thus providing the left with an endless stream of martyrs.
The left will be so obnoxious about not just keeping abortion legal but in setting up and funding an Underground Railroad for women that the right will have an endless stream of villains.
And both will use this for obvious, endless, and pointless fundraising.
* The Washington Post and the New York Times both lead their homepages with stories about how there is anger at Team Biden on the left for not doing more to fight back against the SCOTUS decision.
* Which brings us to tonight’s appearance on Colbert by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. My spideysense – and history – suggest that this will be worth watching.

Speaking of Democrats who won’t be openly and widely enthusiastic about Joe Biden seeking another term in 2024, this New York Times story on the topic is essential reading even though it doesn’t address at least three of the giant donkeys in the rooms where it happens.
The piece, for one thing, doesn’t get at any of the REAL reasons why many elite Democrats think some combination of “Joe Biden of course won’t run again” and “Joe Biden of course shouldn’t run again.”
And the story also fails to capture what the Biden High Command actually thinks of “Kamala Harris ’24.”
