Tonight’s interview on “60 Minutes” with President Biden:
A faction of Republicans that strongly opposes Jim Jordan is vowing he'll have a challenger during the House floor speakership vote on Tuesday, according to two House Republicans familiar with the planning.
While they have not yet nailed down a specific name, they believe the person they ultimately land on will not only be able block Jordan from the speakership, but also give cover to those who want to vote against him. The challenger will certainly take arrows from the far-right flank of the conference, which is pushing hard for Jordan.
HALPERIN SAYS: Even Jordan’s allies say he is at least a dozen hard votes short of what he needs. If his best bet going into the weekend was that the Conference was exhausted and just wanted to find a Speaker and move on, that storyline seems to pale in comparison to those who are, for now, Anybody But Jim, turned off by the prospect of his speakership, his treatment of Steve Scalise, and his lack of fundraising mojo. I’m still betting on McHenry WITHOUT Democratic votes.

Please see the note below from Michael Granoff, whose recent appearance with his son Rafi on a Concierge Coverage Zoom moved so many of us to tears and gave us interest in seeing what we could do to support Michael & Co. as they apply private sector ingenuity and Israeli determination to helping the war effort.

Subject: URGENT - Call to discuss Israel aid supply chain mission
** PLEASE JOIN US TOMORROW, Monday, October 16 at 9:00 AM EDT (4:00 PM Israel) for an important briefing on “Operation Falcon,” creating a magic carpet - a critical and persistent air corridor to bring emergency supplies to Israel. Details in letter below, register here.**
**PLEASE FEEL FREE TO FORWARD THIS TO FRIENDS WHOM YOU THINK WOULD BE INTERESTED**
Dear Friends:
I need not recount the urgency of the situation here in Israel - no doubt you have been following developments closely.
Over many years, Maniv Mobility, the Tel Aviv & NY-based venture fund that I founded, has built a network in transportation and logistics technology that is second to none. From the earliest hours of the crisis, we worked with our friends at the Washington-based energy security group SAFE and others to determine how best to leverage our expertise and resources to help Israel defend herself and to save lives.
What is our plan?
We have partnered in Israel with the Jewish Agency For Israel, the largest Jewish non-profit in the world, which has been tasked by the government to address wartime needs of the Israeli civilian population, and in the US with the most senior levels of FedEx, which is demonstrating incredible generosity and cooperation. A member of our advisory board members who runs supply-chain innovation for J&J and was responsible for their COVID-19 vaccine rollout is personally overseeing our logistics operation in partnership with FedEx and the Israeli authorities.
Much attention, rightly, has been given to the resources lacking on the front lines, and we know that there are a multitude of efforts already in motion that should relieve that situation soon. We have been tasked with addressing a more sensitive and less discussed challenge. This war has blurred the lines between the frontlines and the homefront. To prepare for any eventuality, there must be pre-positioning of medical supplies, generators, reliable and redundant communications equipment, search and rescue material, and more.
What do we need?
We will discuss specific financial needs on the call, but we need to bring in funds in the 7-figure range in the next 72 hours in order to fund the initial purchase orders and get our first shipment en route to Tel Aviv. To fund this mission-critical program for the duration of the conflict, will likely run well into the 8-figures.
While Home Depot and others have stepped up to donate, many of our most promising sourcing conversations - including directly with Black & Decker, McKesson, and Motorola Solutions - will require a purchase order. The next phase will be bulk purchase orders of critical actual equipment, some from the US, and some (because of electrical frequency requirements) from Europe. All proceeds raised will be used to fund the purchase of these critically needed items (prioritized by the Israeli Authorities) and involved logistics costs. Contributions, both financial and in-kind, will be processed through the Jewish Agency’s US-based 501(c)(3), with a specific donation link to come.
Join us tomorrow to discuss
We will be holding an emergency briefing tomorrow at 9AM ET/4PM IL on the current state of our efforts. Please register for the webinar here. For all those unable to attend, we will circulate a link to a Zoom recording of the session shortly thereafter. Additionally, if you are interested in our efforts and can’t make the call, I am happy to schedule a separate time to discuss.
The weight of my ask is not lost on us. Our team has worked three straight 20-hour days, including through Shabbat, to build an operation with synchronized logistics and full coordination on both sides of the Atlantic, knowing that lives might very well be on the line. You will not receive an email like this from me twice.
Am Yisrael Chai.,
Mike Granoff
