On the eve of what is widely expected to be a depressing 2024 general election campaign that will reflect our lowest and worst, how about a moment for our highest and best?
Here is the new trailer for Bill Bradley’s film “Rolling Along: An American Story,” available on MAX on February 1:
I urge you to watch both the trailer and the film, with Bradley’s important message about the beauty and paradox of America, told in a one-man show by someone whose life and wisdom embody The Presumption of Grace.
Because I want as many of you as possible to be a part of sharing the performance and the ethos of the film, I’m holding a little contest.
The winner receives Mario for a Month – thirty days of free access to the daily Wide World of News newsletter, plus all of the other benefits of the top tier of Concierge Coverage.
The winner will be selected from all of those who enter by doing the following:

A few updates:
1. It’s not really clear why Capitol Hill Republicans seem surprised that Donald Trump is on the path to being the Republican nominee for president and that he isn’t a fan of giving Joe Biden a big win on immigration. This…was…predictable (and predicted…).
2. If the immigration deal collapses (and it was always unclear how any agreement that passed the Senate could pass in the House), supporters of aid to Ukraine – including and especially Joe Biden -- are going to have to figure out how to get that done. I’ve heard three theories so far, none of them particularly plausible. For weeks, everyone has said this would all somehow get worked out, without any enunciated theory about how it would get worked out. I’m not saying French school children should start studying Russian, but this looks grim right now.
3. Donald Trump’s brazen attempts to strong arm Nikki Haley out of the race will either be rough but effective – or it will cost him so many votes from suburban women in November that he hands the election to the incumbent. Stay tuned to find out which it is!!
4. The New York Times reconstruction tick tock (free link) of Trump’s Iowa and New Hampshire wins is essential reading and/but also reflects the current rare confluence of point of view between the Maven of Mar-a-Lago and the Dominant Media, both of whom think Nikki Haley is as done as Caroline Bingley’s shot at Mr. Darcy.
